A Hidden Gem in Boonton Art District, New Jersey

In the Explore the Summer series of posts, we’ve already featured some cool museums, restaurants and galleries. This time, we are going to showcase another art gallery and encourage everyone in New Jersey and New York City to visit.

If you love contemporary art, don’t miss Speakeasy Art Gallery. Located in the Boonton Art District in New Jersey, Speakeasy Art Gallery is definitely one of the most outstanding art places in the area.

 

It started as an art collective in 2001, then hosted a few pop up exhibitions in New York City and finally moved to Boonton’s Main Street. The gallery features contemporary work of local and international artists. It offers a playful mix of Hi Art with an edge and Lowbrow with masterful technique. Its friendly, welcoming environment is great for both art enthusiasts and people who are just passionate about the art and just want to have a good time. Besides, it also serves as an art school. The gallery provides art classes for both young and adult students. For those who are interested in fostering a hobby or improving their art skills, Speakeasy Art’s well-experienced teachers can definitely be the ones that can lead you to the artist world.

 

Upcoming exhibit:

Starting from this Friday, August 7^th, Speakeasy Art Gallery is hosting its 2015 summer group exhibition – The Art of the Mix Tape. The gallery challenged artists to create a piece of art named after a song by a specific artist and had to make it either on or out of an actual cassette tape or tapes. At the opening reception, the mix of actual songs will accompany the art and make the reception and participants become another piece of art. There will be more than 30 artists taking this challenge and presenting their artwork. Nearby shops and restaurants will stay open late too. Join the show and enjoy a fun night of art and music.
