“I hope to stay in Nutley forever and have my future kids attend the local Nutley schools,” John said. What brings him from Hoboken to Nutley? What makes him fall in love with Nutley? All the answers are in his interview. Let’s learn about his interesting life story and his passion for the auto industry.

Hi John, tell us a bit about yourself.

introduction of john sweeney

My name is John Sweeney and I’m 32 years old and I’m the Sales Manager at Nutley Kia. I’m originally from Hoboken NJ which is where I was raised and grew up. I also went to Hoboken High School. I’m now married and have lived in Nutley for the past 5 years. I’ve been in the Automotive industry for over 13 years and a dream of mine was to always want to live and work in the same town. It’s a great feeling to be neighbors with the people I do business with and see them on a weekly basis weather it’s at the local supermarket or sporting event.

When did you join Nutley Kia? How do you think about the dealership?

I’ve been with Nutley Kia for almost 3 years now. I’m very involved and attached to the dealership. The greatest part of my job and most challenging part is managing people, but it’s the most rewarding as well. I’m very fortune to have a talented staff that’s been with me since I started and 2 owners that are hands on and willing to mentor. Working at the dealership is like hanging out at a friend or family’s house, it’s very warm and welcoming – a very different way of selling cars that I and my team created.

What’s the most fun part in your work? Do you have an interesting story between you and customers that you can share with us?

The most fun part of our work days would probably consist of all the different kinds of personalities that work for me. There is always different funny photos created on Photoshop that are constantly being passed around the dealership. Our customers are always coming back to visit and bringing friends and family. On a weekly basis, our customers bring us donuts and pastries. There are too many funny stories that go on here to list. We would be a great store for reality TV. I have a customer that manages a local Mexican restaurant down the street and we will hang out with him and his family in the warmer times and have Margherita’s. There is a phone receiver with hair glued to the headset that is passed around daily and when you would pick up the phone , your ear will be tickled with the hair phone and get you all startled.

What’s your favorite Kia? Why?

My Favorite Kia would have to be the Kia Cadenza. Not only do I love the vehicle and highly recommend it but I own one. I’ve been doing this along time and had a lot of different cars through the years, but never had a more comfortable car than the Kia Cadenza.

How do you like Nutley? What does Nutley mean to you? Do you participate in any community activities?

I feel that after living in Nutley for the past 5 years while being a homeowner and working in the town that I finally feel like I have some good foundation and plated some roots down. I actually love the town Nutley and I’m glad my wife and I chose this town to work and live in. Everywhere I go, weather its shopping or taking my dog for a walk through town, I run into people that I did business with. I either sold them a car or someone they know bought a vehicle from Nutley Kia and that feels great. I hope to stay in Nutley forever and have my future kids attend the local Nutley schools.

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

I worked very hard building a great team of people and a relaxed atmosphere so that if you were looking to buy a new or preowned vehicle you would have a place to come to get a great deal while having a fantastic experience. Nutley Kia is a small boutique store in the middle of the neighborhood of Nutley. I see myself working at Nutley Kia for a very long time to come.
