Pole Theory, a Nutley-based aerial dance studio, was founded by Jessica Ludwig and her sisters. After they fell in love with pole dancing in NYC at first, they determined to bring this uncommon form of fitness to their neighborhood and provide the locals another option for exercise. We found Pole Theory through their social media pages and was impressed by their efforts and what they have to offer. Jessica was invited to have an interview with us to chat about the studio’s story and their relationship with the local community. Let’s take a look at what she’d like to say.
By Jessica Ludwig
My name is Jessica Ludwig. I own Pole Theory with my two sisters, Erica Ludwig and Samantha Stango. Erica and I are the two instructors and Samantha is our creative director. Erica and I fell in love with pole dancing as a form of fitness during our first class in NYC. Getting into the city every weekend started to become very inconvenient for us. We decided we wanted to bring our love of pole fitness closer to our community.
Our mission at Pole Theory is for people to explore another option for fitness. We offer a judgment-free space for people to express themselves. We want people to enjoy their workouts as much as we do. We have gained so much strength and confidence from our pole dancing journey. We hope we can make women feel empowered, strong, and confident.
My sisters and I grew up in Bloomfield which is right next door to Nutley. We have students coming from many different towns but most of our regulars live right in Nutley. Our place on High Street was one of the first places we looked at and we fell in love with the area and people right away. It felt like home! Pole fitness has a negative stigma in America. We hope to remove the shame factor associated with pole fitness. We encourage people to have an open mind and come enjoy a pole class at Pole Theory. You won’t regret it!
