never-get-caught-off-guard-diy-your-own-emergency-car-kit

While no one wants to think about the idea of getting into an accident or having an emergency, it is necessary to be prepared at all times. Here are a few things you should consider including in your kit!

First Aid

Perhaps the most obvious, but an often overlooked item is a first aid kit. Either buy a pre-made one or DIY it. Here are some items that should be included:

Car Safety Items

In addition to being prepared for all medical accidents, it’s best to be prepared for what might happen to your car. Most cars come equipped with the tools to replace your tire (a spare Lug wrench and a jack) but before heading out for a trip double check! Another must-have item to keep available are jumper cables, just make sure you know how to use them before attempting to jump-start your car. Other helpful pieces to add to your kit include tire sealant, reflective warning triangles, a tow strap, water proof matches, and of course a flashlight. It is also a good idea to keep a pocket knife or multi-tool in your car as well as a rescue tool (which you can store in your center console) for emergencies. Lastly, a small tool set and duct tape will always come in handy so make sure to throw those in too.

Other Necessities

You never know what your situation is going to be, and you don’t want to get caught off guard. Keeping some water bottles and protein bars in your kit is never a bad idea. A blanket, gloves and hand warmers can also help if you happen to get into trouble during the winter. Speaking of winter- the weather can often be unpredictable and even if it doesn’t seem like it’s going to snow, keep an ice scraper/snow brush in your trunk. No situation will be convenient, so in case your phone has died keep a fully charged external phone charger (or two) in this kit as well- and extra batteries for your flashlight won’t hurt either.

These are just some of the options to help fill your emergency car kit. Chances are you will never use them all, but there is no harm in being prepared!
