The morris museum in new jersey

Railroad enthusiasts of all ages will marvel at the spectacular 288 square foot interactive Mega Model Trains display located at New Jersey’s The Morris Museum. The magnificently crafted display of 37 diesel and steam locomotives, 110 rolling stock cars, and 42 passenger rail cars is brought to life by 47 interactive working accessories operated by guests. The model train explores a world complete with a bustling city and pastoral scene, equipped with a waterfall, planetarium, and even a Sasquatch. New features include model trains from the popular children’s series Thomas and Friends and illustrated book The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.

This iconic display has a long history in Morris County. Beginning in 1985, it was exhibited during the holidays at Nabisco, now part of Mondelēz International, in its East Hanover offices. At the time, many famous Nabisco products including Oreo and Triscuit were already seen on Lionel rolling stock. Employees handcrafted the display and pieces were added each year until 2002 when a reusable mobile display was created. The model was donated to the Morris Museum in 2012 where it is displayed annually.
