Giving Thanks This Holiday Season: Volunteer in Nutley

The holidays are a time for food, fun, and festivities, but most importantly, sharing the love and caring for others. Here at Nutley Kia, we invite you to join us in giving back, with these great Nutley-area volunteer opportunities!

 

1. Community Food Bank of New Jersey

The Community Food Bank is a great way to give back and help make sure others get a holiday meal with the people they love. Whether you’re volunteering your time, donating food or donating funds, the Food Bank will happily accept whatever you have to offer, large or small. With 1 in 7 children facing hunger in New Jersey, this is a way to cause real change in our community. Plus, your local Community Food Bank may even be hosting a special Thanksgiving event!

2. American Red Cross

Every 8 minutes the American Red Cross responds to an emergency. This vital organization is quite literally the lifeblood of the United States, saving lives every day. The American Red Cross of New Jersey has an office in Fairfield, and many ways to give back this holiday season. Whether it’s the crucial donation of blood, providing food or volunteering at their food pantry (which is one of the largest in Essex County), or creating your own Red Cross club, it’s easy to get involved with this fantastic organization. You can even apply to be an educator or join the Disaster Action team.

3. Color A Smile

This one is a great opportunity for the whole family to get involved in! It’s a simple premise that goes a long way; volunteers compose cheerful, inspiring and uplifting crayon drawings that are then sent to senior citizens, overseas, or “anyone in need of a smile”! Anyone capable of coloring can contribute, so this is an easy and fun way to give back to others this holiday season. Even better, plan a coloring event with others and create dozens of masterpieces together that will then change the lives of others both in New Jersey and all around the world.

4. The Arc of Essex County

The Arc is a local organization founded in September of 1947 to assist those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with providing support for their families and educating others. The Arc aids nearly 1500 individuals and families in over 42 distinct services and programs at 35 locations. From day services to recreation opportunities and even a summer camp, the Arc does a lot to help those affected by these disabilities. Best of all, they have plenty of opportunities to get involved, whether you contribute as an individual or even volunteer with your whole office.

5. New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home

 

What better way to give back then to show your love and support for those who have put everything on the line for our country? The New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, sponsored by the State of New Jersey Department of Military Affairs, organizes social events for residents as well as collecting donations of funds and supplies. Located right here in northern New Jersey, this is a meaningful way to spend your free time. Veterans will be extremely appreciative of your company, especially during the holidays, and you may hear some incredible stories and make some new friends.

 

These are just a few of the great opportunities available in the Nutley area, but there are plenty more for you to contribute to in any way you can this season. Whether you drive one of our Kia’s or not, we wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season filled with joy, giving and love.
