As the calendar flips into April, the Spring time is a welcome sight to see. The weather starts getting warmer, the air is getting crisp, so you’ll be wanting to venture outside. Hopping into your car for some Spring time adventures is a perfect idea to enjoy a little fresh air. To get you ready for all of those activities, we wanted to provide you some tips for getting your car up to speed!

Get your Car Spring Ready

  1. Wash the inside and outside of your car: do some spring cleaning. Salt can damage your car’s paint, so give it a thorough cleaning and wax. Clean the inside too from the salt and sand you track in during the winter
  2. Wash the underbody: the salt and sand from the roads can cause corrosion, which can cause rust and lead, you can get the underbody cleaned at your local car wash
  3. Replace your wiper blades: the ice and snow from winter are hard on your blades, leaving them scratched, dry, cracked, and worn down. Change them once they start leaving streaks on your windshield
  4. Change your oil: In the winter, your car uses more oil. so, your car may need to get an oil change sooner than you think. Winter is also hard on engines, so the oil and filter become dirty.
  5. Flush your coolant system: your coolant system should be flushed every 2 years to remove stubborn rust, grease, and sediment
  6. Check your battery: your vehicle works extra hard during winter, so it is easier for the battery to drain. Most auto parts stores offer a free battery inspection.
  7. Take off your winter Tires: Now that it’s spring it’s time to take off your snow tires!
  8. Rotate your tires: After hitting potholes and other dips and bumps in the road, your wheels can be thrown out of alignment. They should be checked every 5,000 to 10,000 miles.

 

Gas saving methods

  1. Regularly rotating your tires and keeping them properly inflated helps you save gas. ​​Under-inflated tires create more rolling resistance with the pavement, thereby reducing gas mileage
  2. Getting routine maintenance allows your car will run at its best and it can improve fuel economy by 4%
  3. Use the motor oil blend recommended by your vehicle manufacturer: this is available in your owner’s manual and can boost fuel economy
