Voices of Nutley with Michele DeBlasio Fleitell

Voices of Nutley brings awareness to local fundraisers and their goals of wanting to help those around them. Our special guest this month features Michelle DeBlasio Fleitell, founder of Nutley Thriving Survivors, as she discusses her involvement and motivation behind starting the fundraiser.

Starting back in 2003, Fleitell started the fundraiser as she was faced with breast cancer and survived. Wanting to help those in the Nutley community, it has since grown in support for “Thrivers,” women who live or work in Nutley, NJ who have also battled breast cancer. Hosting yearly events like golf tournaments and a Celebration brunch, they encourage donations to help provide food certificates sent for use during treatment, mammograms or other medical costs, transportation, or any service needed by Thrivers.

Nutley Thriving Survivors focuses on the perspective of moving forward rather than dwelling on the past. Having guest speakers at their events brings motivation and guidance after survival. Hosting their annual walk, individuals participating will donate, receive a t-shirt and celebrate the end of the walk with a pink confetti cannon. Nutley Thriving Survivors brings everyone going through this challenge together.
