Jersey Mike’s Subs – The Always New Jersey Delicacy

We’ve been showcasing a few small businesses in NJ to introduce great services and products to our local customers. Today’s highlight is a little bit different. Although Jersey Mike’s is a national business now, it sill remains the original concept as it first appeared in Point Pleasant, NJ. Let’s take a look at their story.

 

Founded in 1956, Jersey Mike’s is now available in more than 1,500 locations nationwide. Busy workers and sandwich loves come enjoy their delicious sandwiches everyday. How does it come from a local New Jersey sandwich shop to the fastest growing restaurant chain?

The store has been well known for its fresh and quality submarine sandwiches since the time it started. By the early 70s’, Jersey Mike’s (formerly Mike’s Subs) had already built great reputation for its exceptional products and service on the Jersey Shore, serving commuters and travelers from nearby cities. In 1975, Peter Cancro, now the CEO of Jersey Mike’s Franchise, bought the operation of this small, popular local restaurant when he was only 17 years old. In the next 10 years, he expanded the businesses in two locations. In 1987, he decided to share the delicacy with more gourmets throughout the country, starting franchising the brand. The business grows bigger than ever, and it’s commendable that they still keep the products to its authentic Jersey origins.

Now, a classic sandwich from any Jersey Mike’s consists of the freshest vegetables and premium quality meats mixed with its signature red wine vinegar sauce. The sandwiches are made in an old-fashioned way just as how they made subs nearly 60 years ago. Some people say the secret to their sandwiches is their special sauce and the fresh ingredients, but we all know that the key to their success is actually the concept of serving customers the best and treat them as family.
