Newark Museum features special events such as weekly Jazz in the Garden to promote local jazz musicians, as well as the Newark Black Film Festival, open forums for conversation between art enthusiast, and exclusive events for Newark Museum Members. Gabriel Dawe’s exhibit entitled The Shape of Light will open this September. Be sure to visit and experience the artist’s specific connection between textiles, architecture, and the human body. Dawe will create two temporary large-scale installations, Plexus no. 30 and Plexus no. 31, using colored thread to insight “unexpected and highly textured objects with a surreal and slightly animate quality”.
