10 Spring Driving Tips You Should Know

The weather in Nutley, Newark and the whole North Jersey area has become more comfortable. Spring is coming to town. Is there anything we should be aware of in this season when it comes to driving? Winter is known for its sometimes-scary driving conditions. Just because it’s Spring, doesn’t mean that the roads are finally safe again. Check out these safe, spring driving tips to help you prepare for some challenges:

1. Give Your Car a Check-Up.

Spring is the perfect time to perform maintenance on your car by visiting your mechanic or local dealership service department. Make sure to check fluid levels, tire pressure, the suspension system and breaks. This can help avoid any future breakdowns from happening.

2. Pedestrians Crossing.

As the weather gets warmer, you must watch for more pedestrians, especially in residential, shopping & recreational areas.

3. Construction Sites will Increase.

When the snow disappears, road repairs from the winter begin. Slow down and be aware of road & traffic conditions when you enter work zones.

4. Be Cautious of Motorcycles.

More motorcycles will be on the road in the spring. Be aware of motorcyclists at intersections and in your blind spots.

5. Share the Road with Bikers.

Be prepared in the spring to share the road with bicyclists. Remember, they have the same rights as other vehicles on most roads.

6. Stormy Weather is Coming.

Make sure you either stay off the road or learn about driving during spring storms. Tornadoes, flash floods and hail can threaten your area and your driving skills.

7. Know When you Should Pull Over.

Spring weather can be somewhat unpredictable. If you are driving in unsafe weather conditions, find a safe place to park until the weather improves.

8. Expect More Animals.

With spring, comes more activity in the wildlife. Slow down in wooded areas, so you can easily stop if animals are on the road.

9. Travel Safely.

If you’re planning on traveling long distances during spring break, plan ahead to do as little late-night driving as possible. Make sure you also travel with a fellow passenger to take turns behind the wheel.

10. Avoid Driving Through Large Puddles.

Driving through water can impair your brakes, your vision, and cause hydroplaning.

Enjoy the spring and drive carefully because this season can present unique driving challenges.
