For our Voices of Nutley special this month, we connect with Natalie Neubauer — the Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor at Seton Hall University. Natalie is also a part of the Board of Directors of ‘The Phoenix Center’, a non-profit organization working to better the lives of children and individuals who are a part of the autism spectrum in Nutley, NJ.
Being part of the board, she is an essential piece in helping develop relationships between the center itself and the community setting.
The Phoenix Center
When asked what urged her to get involved with The Phoenix Center, she mentions the fact that she was passionate in helping individuals with significant developmental disabilities due to her profession. But it wasn’t just that, she was inspired by the center’s innovative programming, inclusive nature and how they made a difference in everyone that they helped.
As for raising autism awareness, aside from events they did back in April (for Autism Awareness Month), she mentions the year-round efforts put in place. Natalie continues working on a transition program between Seton Hall University and The Phoenix Center to help prove that those who are living on the autism spectrum can live unhindered lives in today’s society.
Watch the video below for our full interview with her and see for yourself how someone like you can help out in your own way!
Being a non-profit organization, the Phoenix Center relies on the community for support. If you are interested, they are always looking for people to join the Board of Directors and volunteers for all events or other fundraising efforts. There is also a place on their website where you can donate anytime: https://www.thephoenixcenternj.org/donate-now/.
