Earlier this week we spoke with lifelong NJ resident Nancy DeLima about her life and what inspired her top open her own business, a branch of Farmer’s Insurance. Learn more about Nancy in this week’s Voices of Nutley!

1. Can you briefly tell us who you are, where you are from and what you do?

My name is Nancy DeLima and I am the Agent and Owner of Farmers Insurance in Nutley. I’m a lifelong resident of Essex/Hudson County. I have two school aged children, Samantha and Andrew, who take up most of my time when I’m not working.

2. What inspired you to start your own business and why in this field specifically?

I had worked in the insurance field for 18 years and always enjoyed helping clients. Insurance is complicated so I make sure my clients understand their coverage and make them feel comfortable. I wanted to someday own my business but was a bit reluctant. When the opportunity presented itself to join Farmers I knew it was the perfect time to make my dream come true. In October of 2013, I opened my Farmers branch on Franklin Avenue.

3. What are your goals for your Farmer’s branch?

I’d like for clients and potential clients to feel comfortable walking into my office. My office and staff and very customer focused and taking care of our clients is my top priority. We are happy to serve the community.

4. How long have you lived in North Jersey?

I have lived in North Jersey all my life and quite frankly, can’t see myself living anywhere else.

5. How do you like Nutley and how do you like being a business owner here?

I love having a business in Nutley. This is a great community with lots of thriving businesses, families who have lived here all their life, new families eager to buy homes and raise their children here. It’s a wonderful community and the residents really do care about their town.

6. How are you involved with the local community?

I am a member of the Nutley Chamber of Commerce and through the Chamber participate in local events. I am a member of the Nutley Women’s Networking Group. The group is comprised of local female business owners and we work together to help grow each others businesses through referrals. I frequently dine at the local restaurants, do my shopping and dry cleaning here and make it a point to attend events such as the Spring Festival, Nutley Thriving Survivors Cancer Walk, and St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I’m a proud sponsor of Nutley’s Relay for Life and Nutley’s Chamber of Commerce 5K.
