Mark Burachinsky, Bringing Fine Dining to Northern Jersey

Inspired by his family’s love of cooking and his travels throughout France, Mark Burachinsky dreamed of bringing NYC fine dining to Nutley. Hear more about his story in this week’s Voices of Nutley!

Can you briefly tell us who you are, where you are from and what you do?

My name is Mark Burachinsky and I am the owner and operator of MEAL. I am a classically trained chef graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, also holding a degree in hospitality management. MEAL has been open for 5 years now. While I grew up in East Hanover and Denville, I currently reside in Bloomfield.

 

What inspired you to start your own business and why in this field specifically?

After working many years in the field, traveling the world, and doing an apprenticeship in France I believed I was ready to take on a new challenge in working for myself and opening a restaurant I could call my own.

I chose this field specifically because while taking hospitality management classes I also had to take culinary classes and fell in love with cooking then decided to go to culinary school. Also I come from a family of great cooks and during the holidays, special occasions, BBQ’s, and Sunday brunches I loved watching and helping my grandparents and parents prepare the ‘feast’- to see family, friends, and guests thoroughly enjoying the food and time spent together made me satisfied, and that is what I try and relay to my guest here at MEAL.

What are your goals for MEAL?

My goals for the business are quite simple: to keep providing exceptional food using the freshest products available to me, great service, and tasty cocktails at a fair and reasonable price. NYC food, service, cocktails, and ambiance right here in Nutley!

How long have you lived in North Jersey?

I’ve lived in North Jersey my entire life growing up in East Hanover till I was a freshman in high school then moving to Denville and after getting married moving to Bloomfield where we have been for the past 9 years.

How do you like Nutley and how do you like being a business owner here?

I love Nutley, it is a great community, a town where everyone knows each other and helps each other out. Owning a business here has been better than I expected, everyone is very supportive from the local people here in town to all the wonderful people that work in the municipality that helped me and continue to help me in having a successful business. I have met some wonderful people that I now call my friends!

How are you involved with the local community? Do you attend events?

I am involved in the community by donating gift certificates, food, and time for local fundraisers, charities, tricky trays, events and etc.
