The holidays can mean a lot of things for you and your car: road trips, treacherous weather, and packing it to the brim with presents. During this time of year, preparation is everything. You never know how much this vehicle preparation can benefit you during the holidays until something goes astray.

Make sure that doesn’t happen this year. Our pre-holiday car checklist will help you ensure you are prepared and ready to go on any adventure this season.

Winterize Your Car

This one is most important for our drivers in the northeast. Make sure your car is in top shape so breakdowns and accidents don’t happen during long road trips or during severe weather. This can include updating to winter tires, getting an oil changed, testing your defrosters, and buying new windshield wipers.

Stock Your Car With Cleaning Supplies

Whether you’re traveling alone, with your friends, or with little ones, accidents can happen. But we’re not talking about a fender bender. We’re talking spilled soda, snacks falling on the floor, or that dessert you made for the party falling over and staining your seats. Stock your car with trash bags, stain removers, dusters, paper towels, and anything else you might need to clean up messes.

Stay Warm

There’s nothing worse to a parent’s (or driver’s) ears than “I forgot my jacket!” Keep some winter essentials in your car. This also may be helpful in case of breakdowns and accidents that leave you outside for an extended period of time. Keep a spare jacket, gloves, hat, hand warmers, and a blanket or two in your car. (Tip: Invest in a heated car blanket for those chilly morning drives!)

Organize and Empty Your Trunk

Your hands are filled with gifts and suitcases, you open your trunk, and there it is: the mess you forgot you had. Make sure your trunk is clean and organized, garbage is removed, and consider investing in organizational boxes for those must-have items that you always seem to need in your trunk.
